Dear Jim:
KReceived sides 13-16 and again thank you and the group. Couldn't help but K
notice your letter to inquire about the "AppleWorks Exclusive Reference."
KAs I stated briefly in one of my recent submissions, it doesn't seem worth P
Nthe $48.00 Charter Rate. Enclosing a letter sent to the Publisher cancelling N
Lmy subscription and making what I hoped would be constructive criticism. NO (
RESPONSE! The letter is on this disk.
IAlso wrote to International Apple Core (IAC) about TAWUG and a potential =
AppleWorks column in their "IAC Express." (Copy enclosed)
MWould appreciate a small favor. My submissions NETRO.NOTES.85A and 85B were N
Lnot spelling checked. They now are and please put the new versions on disk
in place of the old.
JThe TAWUG.MASTER file on side 16 is a great idea. Hoping the author will L
Jkeep it up. Recommend a few minor changes to the printing format of that B
@file as follows: BM .1, Remove Header, and on the Report titled L
J"LIST.BY.DISK
#" the sort feature should do just that. My version prints *
that report Alphabetically by "subject."
IWhile not all would agree, I really appreciate it when members put Name, J
Haddress, etc. on each submission. That way when printed one is able to P
Ncommunicate with that person without going through a "lookup" in the Member's
Listing.

LETTER TO IAC
December 5, 1985
Ms. Donna Caldwell
Editor IAC Express
908 George Street
Santa Clara, CA 95054
Dear Donna:
KAs a new member and first time reader of IAC Express (Dec
No.5) O
Mseveral comments seem in order. First, Apple's potential User Group Support M
KPlan is certainly needed. Second, large User Groups such as IAC should be N
L"knighted" by Apple for "Contributions above and beyond the call of duty." >
Third, a few words about my pet Apple topic
AppleWorks.
IThe AppleWorks Users Group (TAWUG) started and operated by Jim
Willis is N
Lsmall (350+) but growing. I see no conflict with other User Groups in fact F
DTAWUG is very much a dimension needed in the Apple community. As I M
Kunderstand it most Apple User Groups are predominately Apple BASIC and BBS O
Moriented. TAWUG offers an excellent opportunity for the 800,000+ AppleWorks L
Jowners (source: The PINPOINT ad in your Dec 85 IAC Express) to learn more N
Labout this top selling integrated software package and to contribute to the K
Iprocess. John Wrenholt's FEEDBACK (Dec 85) column was devoted mainly to K
Iquestions about AppleWorks which leads me to believe IAC has AW devotees
also.
KTAWUG currently operates without dues or fees. Anyone can join by writing
Jim Willis

West Monroe, LA 71291
LHis concept is send $3.00 and receive a 2-sided disk with a variety of tips O
Mand applications covered. Alternatively submit files you have developed (on O
Mdisk) plus some postage (I send $1.00 for each disk) and Jim will return the M
Kdisk with two full sides. He now has 16 sides so for about $24.00 or much O
Mless with your disks one has hours of some excellent information available. P
NAs is the case with public domain software, some of TAWUG'S files are not the O
Mgreatest. However, quality is good overall and the investment is definitely
cost effective.
GTherefore if you will please bring this group to the attention of your 7
readership I'm sure they will appreciate the effort.
Finally, may I suggest consideration of an AppleWorks column for the Express?

LETTER TO Q-MAR GROUP RE: "APPLEWORKS EXCLUSIVE REFERENCE"
November 5, 1985
Mr. Christopher Van Buren
Editor and Publisher
Q-mar Group
P.O.Box 11215
San Diego, CA 92110
Dear Mr. Van Buren:
MJust received the first issue of "Exclusive Reference." I am cancelling the I
subscription but felt some comments are in order as the least I can do.
JAvid AppleWorks users will be attracted to the advertising. I received a I
Gflyer and felt this new effort would be packed with info not otherwise ;
available. It was a disappointment for several reasons:
Too brief and wasted space <
Readily available information took much of the space !
Spelling and other errors
Incomplete articles
Organization
MAn annual fee of $60.00 (Charter Rate notwithstanding) seems very high for a H
F9 page document. The first page wasted 20-25% of its space announcing P
Ncontents. In a 200 page magazine an expanded table of contents is justified. J
HPage 7 should have been tightened so that all of Tips & Tricks could be O
Mplaced on pages 6 & 7. (See Organization) Page 10 (no number) is about 50 %
white.
IThe information on new products, e.g. UniDisk which took two of the nine O
Mpages has been discussed in several magazines which many if not most of your O
Msubscribers will have read. ReportWorks also took two pages. The style and N
Lcontent for both features were good however 44+ % of overall space gone and P
None isn't much better off than having circled Reader Service numbers in A+ or M
KInCider, etc. Recommend very brief listings of new materials with concise
insightful comments .
JSpelling errors (3-4) leads one to believe that serious errors in formuli O
Mcould occur but wouldn't be as apparent. Amazingly enough in Figure 1, page O
M7, the last left parens in cells A14 and A15 are missing. I set up Figure 1 P
Nand when entering the formula for cell A14 of course found all of it wouldn't N
Lfit. Somehow you know how to do this and I'm sure readers would appreciate L
Jthe tip. Notice in my version of Fig 1 (enclosed) Cell A14 contains "50" O
Mhowever my abbreviated formula calls for the number 100 as A2=C5. I plan on
working with this some more.
MThe "Applications" area is a super concept and probably will be important in P
Ndetermining success or failure, however from the extremely short introduction P
Non "Estimating and Billing" it will take several years to cover the first set
listed.
KI am not a layout expert but for a short pamphlet the articles might have N
Lbeen completed in order without so much shifting around. As a continuation F
Dof comments on wasted space, the UniDisk report could have had some <
tightening enabling you to avoid continuing it on page 5.
HBest wishes in this endeavor. I look forward to revisions in style and N
Lcontent justifying a future subscription. Hopefully the foregoing comments M
Kwill help you in evaluation. They were intended to be constructive. I am L
interested in the "Appleworks Applications Catalog" when it is available.
